Pika - Record Grouping Logic and Information

One of the unique aspects of Pika is the work it does to ‘group’ or consolidate bibliographic records that represent many different editions and formats of titles into accessible grouped works that make searching easier for patrons.

Pika uses three overarching grouping categories to group records - Books, Movies, and Music. These categories represent the varied manifestations any one title can have and groups bibliographic records accordingly into those categories. Records that represent the same format (e.g. book, eBook, DVD) are collected into a format manifestation that is represented on a grouped work. A set of records and format manifestations group onto a grouped work when the grouping title, grouping author, and grouping category of each record all match.
