RBdigital vs Flipster Update (Tammy)

  • All the libraries from last year have agreed to renew their RBdigital magazine subscription for 2020.
  • We have 3 new libraries who decided to join for a total of 16 libraries.
  • The Pika team has decided to move up the RBdigital API integration for the new magazines.
  • If they cannot get the RBdigital API finished before the magazines are available on February 1st, they will sideload the magazines.
  • We have 6 libraries who agreed on a group purchase of 11 Flipster titles.
  • We are still working out the details about how those libraries will display those titles for their patrons.
  • Ashley is working on creating a Flipster side load in Pika for those libraries.

RBdigital eAudiobooks (Adam)

RBdigital eComics (Adam)

  • Adam reviewed the eComics and Graphic Novels Comparison spreadsheet and vote if they wanted to add eComics as a shared collection.
  • Here is supplemental information that was used in the eComics and Graphic Novels Comparison -  eComics Titles & Cost Spreadsheet.
  • Most members asked to review this collection option next year due to budget concerns.

OverDrive High Demand Holds Lists (Liz & Alysa)

  • Demo recording
  • Liz asked the OverDrive Advantage purchasers to run the Current Holds report using all branches and sorting descending by the All Holds column to see how high the holds are for certain titles.
  • Liz suggested that if people would consider ordering more of the titles with large numbers of holds to bring down the hold ratio for all the libraries.
  • Alysa runs the identical report that Liz runs, but she creates a worksheet to download and manipulate it to help her really manage her holds effectively.

  • The Consortium (Cons) Ratio is a factor of all of the holds, plus all of the advantage copies and consortium copies where it calculates the hold ratio. For the advantage ratio, they pull the consortium ratio into the advantage ratio.
  • Alysa recalculates the Advantage (Adv) Ratio. She wants to know how many of her advantage patrons are on hold for the copy that she owns. Her recalculated Advantage Ratio to equal the Adv Holds divided by her Adv Own. She sorts the list by advantage holds to see how many of her patrons are on hold for the title. Any Adv Ratio that the “#DIV/0!” in the column, this means your library does not even own a copy.
  • The Advantage hold ranking column shows where your patron is on the hold list.
  • Ashley asked if we have to manually move the holds.
  • Liz replied sometimes yes if we purchase a different copy. If you purchase more of the same copy it will move automatically.
  • Alysa added that our OverDrive rep has also offered to move any holds when a new title is purchased.
  • Members from the group asked Alysa to share her process with the group. They would like to know the steps she used to get her columns organized.
  • Action Item: Alysa will supply the two spreadsheets she showed with the group.
  • Alysa pointed out OC/OU titles that are no longer for sale and have holds.
  • Adam suggested that he and Brandon can look into automating the process that would look for these titles.
  • Alysa pointed out that the Adv Holds column in the report is based on her Advantage login, and would look different for each library.
  • Action Item: Adam and Brandon will work with Abbey from OverDrive to see what might be possible in terms of the Adv Holds column and report back to the group to see if they can put together something that is more automated.

OverDrive Blackstone Audio Suggested Titles List (Liz)

  • List of suggested titles
  • Liz asked the group to look at the titles and make suggestions for titles they would not like to see on the list.
  • People responded positively to the list of titles using chat.
  • Action Item: Tammy will order the Blackstone Audio titles on January 23, 2020. She will get in touch with the OverDrive rep about the current curated list of titles to make sure they get updated.

Other Topics

  • Ashley wanted to talk to the group about a Kanopy sideload in Pika.
  • Ashley mentioned that It is very easy to add this collection into a library’s sideload.
  • Alysa is kind enough to manage the collection. Once a month, she will pick up any new titles and reload them.
  • Most libraries using Kanopy have access to a general collection.
  • If you are interested in a Kanopy to sideload, Marmot needs to know your Kanopy domain so the collection directs out to the appropriate place.
  • Ashley also mentioned that Creative Bug is another sideload that can be added.
  • When libraries are looking at new products you can get in touch with Marmot to see if we can help you find ways to make your lives easier.
