Discussion Topics
- Authority situation
- New load profile and Ingram cataloging problems
FOLIO Updates
- WolfCon
- NL Australia
- Migration is really hard
- Spent 2 years preparing for migration, with help from EBSCO, they still had problems.
- NL Finland
- They were able to go with FOLIO because their government has codified a preference for open source.
- LDP session
- LDP is the project name
- MetaDB is the software name
- Stanford is using MetaDB hosted by Index Data while their FOLIO is self-hosted
- Actually on AWS, but managed by Index Data
- MetaDB does not need as much server power as the previous version
- Stanford's self-hosting migration
- 3 developers
- 3 Sys-ops
- 1.75 business analysts
- 1 project manager
- They ran out of time and had to bring in Index Data to help finish the migration in time
- Migrated from two different systems
- They tried to do a single-server install, but it was too complex, so they switched to Kubernetes
- The hardware they bought was not optimized for Kubernetes, so it does not work as well as it could
- They use Helm (Maybe HLM??) for deployments
- It took months to set up the test server
- They are bailing on MARC holdings in favor of Folio holdings
- Use something called Airflow Apache for open workflow management
- UUID is not random. It is determined by existing data. The same data will create the same UUID, which sounds like the Gold Rush key.
- Everything took twice as long
- They wished they had a second test server
- BELA working group
- New in Poppy
- FOLIO query language created for lists app
- ECS - Cross tenant queries from central office app
- ECS migration session
- Mostly about problems with ERM
- We don't care because we are all using Gold Rush
- We should check with Boulder about how Folio is working with Gold Rush
- New ECS functions
- "Permission sets" are now called "Roles"
- Roles can be created in central office and pushed out to tenants
- Local roles can also be created
- Sunflower will have Direct Consortial Borrowing
- Title and Item level
- Also mediated requesting
- Private request function being developed for LoC, specifically for Members of Congress.
- You can create what is called a secure tenant
- You can't have any duplicate user names in the system. This is only FOLIO logins, not patrons
- Eureka
- This is a new structure replacing OKAPI
- Makes upgrades easier
- It will be possible to upgrade modules separately
- Different modules could have different release schedules
- OpenRS
- Mobius is live on ORS now.
- Do not make any assumptions about what FOLIO does
- There are weird holes in it's abilities
- It can't print spine labels
- No authority function
- ECS circulation and shared cataloging
- DCB between tenants within FOLIO
- Mobius has been doing this with OpenRS, but now can do it within FOLIO
- You can now move holdings from one tenant to another
- I think item-level requests have to be mediated.
