Pika Release Notes 2018.10.0

Release date : November 13, 2018 (Tuesday after November Discovery Committee Meeting)

New Functionality

  • Completion of Sacramento Valley Library Network implementation

    • Self registration working as intended

      • Special handling for patrons under 18 - parent/guardian information required with birthdate field

      • Only CA zip codes can apply

      • User can set own PIN

    • Completed work with sideloads

    • Addressed issues with call number displays

    • Going live internally in November, live to public Jan 2019

  • Self Registration improvements

    • Zip-code and State requirements

  • PIN requirement checking for self-registration, pin update in account settings, and pin reset page

    • Can check for alphanumeric or numeric only

    • Will check for minimum length


 

  • Browse category cover art uniform display (optional)

    • Requires CSS styling

    • When cover art image heights are too similar to allow for tiled display, this will display covers in a uniform “box”

    • This also works with the star ratings

    • Send an email to pika-at-marmot.org, if you want the CSS styling for the cover art display improvements for browse categories

  • Progress on Addison Public Library implementation

    • Connections to Sierra DNA and Patron API working

    • Initial theming completed

    • Initial indexing working well

  • Admin pages that are list/table of admin pages now have an Add New button at the top of the page as well as the bottom.

 

  • Offline Circulation

    • Better handling for special characters (+, &,$) in item and patron barcodes

    • More error messaging to explain why transactions fail

    • Faster processing

Bug Fixes

  • Change of labeling for PIN update function

  • Bento Box combined search timed out with apostrophes in search term/phrase

    • Patched issue for critical functionality

  • When value of -1 is set for ‘cancel by’ date for holds, Pika will not offer the ‘cancel by’ option for users placing holds

  • Library location maps not displaying in Pika

    • Need API key to work and correct permissions to work

 

Digital Archive

  • DPLA Feed Improvements

    • Intermediate provider

      • Any object with a related collection, which is an organization and has the role of owner, donor, or acknowledgement (and isn't the contributing library) will be listed as the Data Provider; and the contributing library in that case will be listed as the Intermediate Provider.

    • Better handling of Date Created

    • rights.org statements : if an object doesn’t have a rights.org statement but the parent collection does, the object will display the statement from the parent collection

    • Parent collection name will is included as a subject for objects

      • DPLA does not have a field for collections

Sideloads

  • Processing requests for RBdigital for Wake County and Santa Fe

  • Processing request for Naxos Music for CCU

  • Completed work for Gale collections for Sacramento Valley Library Network

Additional Work

  • Lake County Public Library live on Marmot

    • Newest Marmot member

    • Special theming work completed

    • Pika admin training completed

  • Additional disk space created for Sacramento’s server

  • Upgraded form validation library (fixes javascript issue in IE11)

    • For Sierra libraries only

    • Changes to the export profile is a free edit from Innovative
