Meeting Minutes for 08/05/2019
Discovery Committee Meeting
August 5, 2019
Minutes
2019.07 Deployment Delayed
-
Deployment will be on the evening of August 12th
Sierra API Implementation Plan
- Extract API
- Call for testing on test servers for Sierra libraries
- Pascal would like catalogers to check their Pika test sites whenever they add or modify records to look for an erroneous changes that would be a problem
- Ideally, the changes should take under 5 minutes to show up on the test sites
- Ashley asked testers to make small changes to the title field of their bib records to make sure those titles are grouping and ungrouping correctly. Testers can also change the author to test the records as well. Also to record how long it takes for records to group and ungroup (recording minute 21:22;11)
- Ashley suggested making other small bib level changes or item level changes to see how they display in the test records

Other discussion topics
- Marmot restructuring of departments / Pika support
- In December, JB was appointed as the Manager of Software Development Department, and Sean Hanson was promoted to the position of Assistant Director for Marmot.
- The motivation behind the reorganization or transitions was the concept of being able to move Pika into the stable release.
- As Marmot neared the stable release, they wanted to transition support for Pika away from being on the shoulders of the developers, and more into a department or team at Marmot that focuses on day-to-day support.
- The integration of development work and support will continue exactly as it has without any noticeable change.
- Internally, this means that Pika support along with Ashley in her role as the Discovery Support Coordinator has transitioned to the User Services team lead by Brandon Cole.
- This will allow Ashley to not be the sole person who is handing and responding tickets and known issues.
- This will allow the User Services team to gain more knowledge and experience with Pika known issues, learn about the triage process, and how feature requests, and bug fixes can flow into the development cycle.
- This overall will strengthen the ability for Mamot to provide support for Pika by allowing more staff to participate in helping with that support.
- Existing communication methods continue unchanged.
- Ashley will continue to be the main point of contact, but you might be getting email responses from other Marmot staff.
Next Meeting is Tuesday, September 3rd
