eContent Committee Meeting Minutes
08/30/2023

Marmot Vendor Demo Days Review [MLN1 & MLN2]

  • Tammy reviewed the registration and attendance for the Vendor Demo Days
    • The registration email was not sent to the eContent Committee email list, which resulted in some people not receiving the registration.
    • 40 people registered
    • 30 people attended
    • 25 people who registered attended the sessions
    • 15 people who registered did not attend the sessions
    • 5 people attended but did not register
      • Two of the 5 people were library names. It's unclear if one person registered or multiple attended.
  • Tammy spoke about the vendor sessions
    • 13 vendors presented on August 8th
    • 9 vendors presented on August 9th
      • On August 8th, there were three simultaneous sessions in the morning.
      • Two concurrent sessions occurred during the afternoon sessions on August 8th and all-day sessions on August 9th.
        • Tammy was assisted by Ashley and Bethany, both moderators for the other sessions as part of the Marmot staff.
        • The vendors thanked all the moderators for ensuring smooth proceedings.
  • Here is a link to the recordings for all 22 vendors.
  • Liz thanked those on the subcommittee for all their work planning the vendor demo days.

Vendor Question

  • For LinkedIn Learning, is the PIN stored on their end, or do they come from the Sierra ILS?
    • Patrons access using a library card number and a PIN.  All PINs and library card numbers are stored within the library's ILS system, not their system.

Action Item: Tammy will send an email with the minutes and a spreadsheet of vendor contacts. She will also include links to the consortium pricing form.

Action Item: Tammy will ask the LinkedIn Learning rep about their PINs and share the information with this group.

Blackstone Audio Renewal Finalize Guidelines [MLN1]

Guidelines from the 06/07/2023 meeting

  • The group decided that we would only replace some titles each year.  We will replace titles with lower checkouts.
  • Before adding titles to our list, we will search for classic titles available through the free Duke Classics titles.
  • We will look for popular titles with plenty of holds and fewer copies purchased when available.
  • We may buy a newer series title if it's popular and will fulfill holds, even if we cannot purchase the older ones.
  • Before creating the lists of available titles with checkouts, the Marmot eContent rep researches which titles are still available for sale.
  • For children’s titles, a separate Juvenile/YA Blackstone curated list will be created and published on the Kids/Teens pages.

Blackstone Audio renewal finalized guidelines discussion

  • The guideline regarding separate JUV/YA titles on a curated list was questioned due to insufficient titles for a curated list.
  • Someone else wondered if it was worth choosing the JUV/YA titles because they are not the most in demand. It would be nice to put our money towards the most demanding titles.
  • Someone mentioned that it is mainly about popularity. If we find a really good children's title, we can think about purchasing it, but it isn't necessary unless we think it will be used.
  • The group suggested striking the criteria for the JUV/YA titles.
  • The group agreed with the other bullet points for adding the guidelines to the committee’s homepage.

Action Item: Tammy will create the Blackstone Audio Renewal Guidelines page.

Other Business

  • OverDrive Digipalooza
    • John from Bemis discussed issues with our OverDrive rep regarding consortium-level issues.
    • They discussed not having the CPC titles appear for patrons when their library did not purchase them. John hoped to push them to change that policy or fix the issue on their software side so individual libraries could use CPC for community reads or book club sets.
    • Gina is from an MLN2 library that uses the Frontrange downloaded library, and she also talked to the OverDrive rep about the issue with the CPC title glitch. She asked if John heard about an ETA on getting that issue fixed.
    • John mentioned that consortiums from all around the country are having the same problem. John mentioned that our rep is talking with the OverDrive software development team, but there is no ETA. It was a hot topic at the conference.
    • John also pushed for the usefulness of marketing curation campaigns at the Advantage level. Right now, you can use shelf-talkers at the Advantage level. John saw libraries not part of a consortium using program guides and marketing campaigns on Libby.
    • Tammy showed the OverDrive Cost Per Circ (CPC) Titles documentation that was created to explain how to look for CPC titles since these titles cannot be shared through Advantage Plus. Still, in Pika, they may display as available for checkout to patrons who cannot checkout the CPC titles.
    • Another little Digipalooza update: Overdrive seems to be investing heavily in assistive technology tools (built-in text-to-speech, etc.) in the upcoming months/year.
  • OverDrive Magazines for EDS (EBSCO Discovery Service)
    • Tracey from the CMU library uses EDS to display the OverDrive magazine titles
    • Currently, the magazines do not have ISSNs, which would make it easier to find the MARC records. CMU has to search for the MARC records to add them so they are searchable in EBSCO discovery.
    • Last year, Tracie did reach out to our OverDrive rep about creating a title list called a KBART (Knowledge Bases and Related Tools) standard title list with an ISSN, title, URL, and subject headings to upload. It would benefit OverDrive to work with vendors like EBSCO and Proquest to create these title lists.

Action Item: Tammy will ask OverDrive about getting a magazine title list for CMU.
