Pika Release Notes 2020.07.0

New Functionality

  • Abridged edition sorting - abridged editions will be sorted to the bottom of the editions tables. When there are abridged copies in the editions, a column to denote abridgement is displayed. (Minute 19:50)

  • OverDrive Improvements (Minute 22:07)
    • Magazines
    • Editions will be sorted but last published first so that newest issue will be used for the primary checkout/place hold button action
    • Publication date will be displayed as a column in the editions table

  • Patron actions
    • Patron can choose different loan periods, if offered by the library
    • Can set defaults for different material types e.g. 21 days for audiobooks, 7 days for ebooks

 

  • Patron can suspend/freeze Overdrive holds from Pika account for delivery at later date

  • Updates to Overdrive hold email prompt
    • Clarify prompt switch

  • General workflow for Overdrive checkouts is improved
    • Set lending period for the checkout
    • Use default lending period settings
    • Successful checkout prompt
      • Display buttons for read/listen online actions
      • Button to go to My Checkouts, doesn’t automatically direct to My Checkouts page immediately after Overdrive checkout

  • Record View search navigation links will now remain at the top of the view when scrolling down the page for easy navigation of search results (prioritized feature request) (Minute 38:34)

  • Improved handling of search facet range types like published Date, Lexile Measure, etc
  • Improved display of automatic hold cancellation information, incorporating linked users and patron’s library settings. (Minute 39:54)

 

Bug Fixes

  • Lists limited to 2000 items (Minute 18:11)
    • UI changes to disallow adding more than 2000 items to a list
    • Splitting currently large lists into lists of less than 2000 items
  • Pinterest Sharing button fixed
  • Fetching enrichment from Content Cafe would cause long delays in page loads
    • Shortened time out period waiting for responses from content cafe
    • Switch calls to https (secure connection), which seemed to reduce the number of time outs
    • Additional logging for diagnosing issue
    • Ensured calls for syndicated reviews weren’t made when reviews aren’t part of the subscription
  • [Sierra] Duplicate barcodes can now login (Minute 4:41)
  • [Sierra] Bibs with item volumes display only holdable items for logged in patron (Minute 8:41
  • Clone Location and Clone Library updates to permissions (Minute 19:23)
  • NY Time API list integration - more robust handling of ISBNs to fetch bestseller titles (Some incomplete information in the API)
  • Fort Lewis hold submission button wasn’t displaying when logging in at point of placing hold

Sideloads 

  • Creativebug shared collection(Minute 50:37)
    • To be used by all Marmot and Discovery Partner libraries subscribing to Creativebug
    • Creativebug will send general record set to Marmot, URL replacements with libraries’ domains will ensure that patrons are directed to unique Creativebug domains
    • Updated 3 times yearly
  • Colorado Historical Newspaper Collection(Minute 53:40)
    • Shared collection (similar to CO State Gov Docs) that can be applied to any Marmot or Colorado Discovery Partner library’s Pika site
    • Updated by State Library staff regularly with new titles
  • Gale Courses for Flatirons (Minute 57:20)
  • Build handling for MARC files for sideloads that can be handled on multiple Pika servers
