Curriculum Working Meeting
Meeting Minutes
09/15/2021
General Overview of the Process: The group worked on the scaffolding process for the topics identified during past meetings. The concept of scaffolding is essentially knowledge building on itself with a structured hierarchy of knowledge that someone needs to know in order to do their job. The beginning level for someone who has just been hired or someone who is moving into a different role within their current workplace. These would be the foundational or 100 level courses like someone who is in college. What do they need to know when they move into a sophomore role or early/intermediate level. Next would be a truly intermediate stage and ultimately being an advanced user within a library. The group took the initial service rankings spreadsheet back for other staff to review to gather more data or feedback. Marmot IT libraries reviewed the services for lines 125 - 159 of the spreadsheet. The entire group also reviewed the Marmot OPAC/Pika services for lines 160 - 190.
  • Adam reviewed each section for IT Services to make sure the group was comfortable with the average as an indicator of the level placement. He also inquired about the group helping to pick the levels for each topic.
    • One take on the levels for IT services was from the perspective of a circulation manager who supervises library assistants and looking at Network and WIFI that their circulation team would not need training so level 4 was used.
    • Another take was first what do we need to know to best serve the public at the front line so connecting a device to WiFi is job number one. The WiFi is one that would come before connecting a device. Next would be the network stuff in order of complexity.
    • Adam asked Sean for more information about the topics of network & WiFi and WiFi service and wondering what those topics would entail before people feel they can rank in terms of where they might fall in a sequence of topics. Adam noticed the PCRes would be one of the early topics in the sequence.
      • Sean mentioned that most topics would be good for orientation purposes to understand how the WiFi will be set up in each library. Information about the staff and public WiFi with does and don'ts and configuration. It will be a description of how WiFi is set up and the parameters. There might be some deeper things that might come out of that for special configuration.
  • Adam reviewed each section for Pika to make sure the group was comfortable with the average as an indicator of the level placement. He also inquired about the group helping to pick the levels for each topic.
    • Adam noticed that the group gave the Pika UX the lowest numbers commenting that should be the beginning area.
      • It was pointed out that there might be level 2s in the Pika UX topics like creating a list and linking patrons.
    • Ashley mentioned that the next level topic for a level 2 should probably be Pika handling.
    • Adam commented that the Pika Basic Admin User Features averages seem like the third-ranking topic group. Maybe starting with browse categories.
    • Looks like sideloading, Sierra and Pika Integration, and External Pika are all roughly in the same kind of area being oriented solely towards that single Pika admin or two Pika admins at a library.
    • The Pika YouTrack ticketing system is only used by Pika admin and would fall under the higher level for a Pika admin.

Action Items: Each library has a column to rate the service, topic grouping, and/or topic. You would give each service a level rating of 1 - 4 (see definitions below). Please go through the services for lines 191 - 201 for Reports & Statistics, lines 202 - 208 for Shared eCollections, and lines 209 - 217 for Marmot Digital Archive. Please let us know if you need any clarification on what is covered under any of the topics. Please share this spreadsheet with your colleagues who can help rate or rank any of the processes listed.

  • Level 1: Beginner
  • Level2: Early/intermediate
  • Level 3: Intermediate
  • Level 4: Advanced
