  • Marmot project to document acquisitions processes
    • Bud Werner and Eagle Valley are complete and posted in the Marmot Knowledge Base.
    • Looking for another library to volunteer.
  • Nina asks when we might be expected to use BIBFRAME
    • As long as we are using Sierra we are depending on III to develop a BIBFRAME interface, and there has been no discussion of such a change with them. So there is no expectation that we would have the option of making such a change for the indefinite future unless we were to change to another system.

 Discussion Topics

  • Deduping question
    • When can you dedupe a record that has other libraries attached?
      • You can dedupe other library's records as long as you check holdings at OCLC.
      • There's no problem if:
        • The record you are removing is not an OCLC record
        • OCLC has already combined the records in their database
        • No marmot libraries have OCLC holdings on the bib record you will remove
      • Marmot Deduping Training
  • Problematic LCSH
    • Problem LCSH – Cataloging Lab
    • That is a list of problematic LCSH terms that was crowdsourced from the library community.
    • It could be a good starting point for what finding a list of terms we would like to send to Marcive.
    • The solution Marcive provides is that we would send them a list of terms and corresponding alternate terms. They would send us replacement bib records that include the new alternate term, so they would then have both terms. New records we add to Sierra in the future would also get replacements adding the alternative terms.
    • This solution would improve searching, but the problematic terms would remain in our records.
    • We look through the list to talk about what terms we want to deal with in this process.
    • We talk about some of the terms on the list and record some ideas in the spreadsheet.
    • We decide to assign the special projects team to continue this work.
  • MUG discussion
    • The UCC liaison for MUG volunteered. Tammy thinks it is Jolanda.
    • Chat asks for a preview of MUG.
      • Jamie LaRue will be the keynote speaker.
      • Adam will give his annual report
      • Discussion of PINs
      • MUG will be all in person this year, no online element

FOLIO Updates

  • Michigan State went live
  • Morning Glory Bugfest is happening now
    • MG will be the last release this year
  • The University of Chicago tried to do a fiscal year roll over and it got stuck. It has been stuck for weeks and they don't know what's wrong. They can't do any acquisitions. They are hosted by Index Data.
  • Stanford says: "alarming and awful performance on test server." They managed to fix it by making a change to the set up, but they had to figure it out by trial and error.
  • App Interaction
    • Discussion of permissions to access personal information like birth dates. Different laws in different countries about this means it needs to be flexible.
  • Acquisitions
    • Morning Glory will be able to
      • change the link between an order and item
      • delete piece records
      • manually add a new POL to an order
    • Encumbrances have to be released in a separate step from invoicing.
  • Bulk Edit
    • Nolana will have the ability to bulk edit user data, loan types, holdings locations, item notes.
  • Data Import
    • Discussion of how mark for deletion would work in detail.
  • INN-Reach
    • Grand Valley State's test production implementation starts next week. This is several weeks delayed. The soonest other implementations could happen now is Feb 2023.
  • Metadata Management
    • Discussion of mark for deletion
    • Nolana will have browse series
    • Browse Genre/Form should be in Orchid or Poppy.
    • Idea to split subfields into separate boxes so you can tab to the next subfield
  • Migration
    • Optimistic locking breaks migration. If a record is overlaid in a migration, optimistic locking will fail the entire load with little information. You have to set version numbers manually. Migration doesn't give version numbers and without a version number optimistic locking will never work.
  • QuickMARC
    • Discussion of subfield codes in separate boxes.
    • What should the subfield delimiter be? If it is $, how to deal with a literal $ in the data?
    • I bring up hiding subfield zero again.
    • Browse contributors in Lotus.
